Alternator compatibility
The bearings sound like they're going in my 1965s alternator ... I have an rebuilt alternator in a box somewhere from my C3 1972 350ci, are they compatible?

My 70 Vette used a 10SI alternator, which has the integral regulator. It would not be compatible with your 65 version, which uses an external regulator (unless you want to do some rewiring).
Note that rebuilding the old alternators is not difficult, and bearings, brushes, etc. should be available at NAPA.

Most of the Corvette parts suppliers offer a simple connector to by-pass the voltage regulator and allow the use of these internal regulated alts. A pretty easy way to up your output to 70+ amps. As I remember, connector is less than $20. Of course, you wouldn't have the enjoyment of rebuilding the old one!

My motor is a NOM. I just looked at the alt, it has 2 separate connectors and one wire going to it. I am told by the PO the engine is a 1972(?) 350.

I bought a Delco Remy 10 DN Alternator Repair Kit on ePay for like $25 shipped. I guess I'll give it a shot repairing it...

Ok the rebuild kit came in the mail, its 2 small bags of parts w/o any instructions.
Does anybody know of a tutorial to rebuild this external regulator alt?

Alright got the kit and trying to get thru this. (my first time) How do I put back in the newDIODES without breaking them. I was going to try to punch them in with a socket and hammer but the connector is in the way and the socket size I need would be too small to thread the connector up and out of the way?
Any ideas?
No instructions anywhere to rebuild this? I got it all apart on the kitchen table .

If it was charging ok and just bearing noise, I would not change the diodes. Check the rotational field armature where the brushes contact and polish with crocus cloth. The bearings can be tapped or pressed out with a small socket and a c-clamp. A good cleaning new bearings and a brush pack and you should be good to go. Do not forget to clock the halves properly. Let us know...

Well I finally finished rebuilding it and I thought it came out pretty good, since I had nothing to go by as a guide.
Once installed it read on the guage "+20" then in a minute or 2 it went down to about "+7".
I hope thats normal....
