Default 65 electrical schematic for dummies-me

Looking at the IGN - run circuit I am confused, IGN 18 B/P runs to coil + through what I believe is ballast resistor (funny looking symbol) which I assume is for the start circuit, but the coil + is also fed of the R terminal on the starter which I assume is for the run circuit. If I'm correct then how does engine stop, something to do with horn relay?

Alright i got it backwards sorry, thats why said for dummies, R on starter must be full voltage for only energized for starting and IGN must be reduced voltage for running...

So the real question is if IGN is hot when I'm cranking, can I power my MSD directly from it?

You can hook the red wire to the side of the ballast resistor that goes to the ignition, but not to the side that goes to the coil.
