Default Fan switch operation qustion on a 66 a/c car

Fan works fine when the **** is all the way "in" position.
When the ****/cable is in the "out" position the fan does not operate.
Is there a problem? OR is this normal.
If it is not normal what is the diagnosis?
Dealing with a repro switch (chinese made)

NOT normal. As noted in your owner's manual, the fan should operate whether that **** is pulled out, pushed in, or inbetween. Sounds like a bad switch.

Fan works with the **** pushed in, so the ground is OK.

Check the 30 amp fuse at the ac relay and make sure the inline fuse holder isn't corroded. If the fuse is ok, it could be the relay. Is it original?

There's no relay or fuse that will cause the fan switch to not work when the **** is pulled out and will work when pushed in if you're talking about pulling out the same **** (passsenger vent) the fan switch is on. Are you talking about that or are you pulling out the a/c cable **** to turn on the a/c and then the fan switch doesn't work?

The shaft on the pull cable passes through the switch and has flat sides to rotate the switch. It should do exactly the same thing whether it's pushed in or pulled out. If you can still feel the click for the speeds when you pull out the **** and rotate the fan switch, then the shaft is still moving the switch positions. It doesn't make sense that it only works when in, unless pulling it out moves a wire connection going to the switch. You're going to have to get to the back side and do some checking, both physically and with a meter. All this is assuming you have a stock a/c car and setup for the controls.
