Seriously considering a move to Florida.

Wow! I'm not going to say anything about driving the 63 this morning. While I'm at it, I will keep mum about the low to mid 70s we are going to see Fri and Sat. Now if they could just do something about these ridiculously high tax rates in CA.

One thing for sure, gas will be cheaper when the snow melts...

That looks bleak We looked very similar to that after our blizzard a couple of weeks ago. Most of it has melted now. It will start warming up in March even in your neck of the woods. Hang in there

Moved from VA to FL after graduating from HS in 1964 and spent the next 40 years here. Moved to Minnesota in 2005, lived there for 7 years but back in FL now.
Sunny skies today and in the mid-70's. I'll be driving my '67 with the top down today and will never live up north again.
[BTW, as far as housing prices, we took a $100K loss on our MN house when we sold it last year BUT . . . we saved $100K on the price of our FL house so it was a wash and no reason to postpone a move if you can do it .]

Weather never bothered me up until I was about 55 years old. After that, I still loved looking out the window at the snowy landscape in Maryland -- for about 20 minutes.
I still love looking at snowy landscapes, on my COMPUTER! -- down here in sunny Florida.
Oh - did I mention we have cheap real estate and NO state income tax!

Florida has it's issues as well. That coupe of you's better have a/c if you are going live down here and don't let me get started about the hurricanes or better yet the cost of hurricane (wind) insurance

I lived in Pa most of my life; moved to Fla., discovered they didn't tell me/ warn me, about the bugs. You can maybe control them, but, you never get rid of them. Too buggy, too hot. And, the summers are like the winters up North, you pretty much stay indoors where its air conditioned, like in the winter, you'll probably mostly stay indoors where its heated. The Mid-South is best (I winter in NC now).

I lived in South Florida for four years. You really have to get used to the humidity and all the mold that goes with it. Love Bugs!!! May and June you can't drive anywhere on the pike without an encounter, and they ain't pretty smashed allover the front of your car and windshield!

[QUOTE=wmf62;1583239547]unless you lived in Florida in the early 70s you have no idea how bad the 'lovebugs' could be... they were so dense that there were tracks through the bodies on the road like you would see tire tracks in the dusting of a light snow...
Yup, I agree w/that. I lived in Tampa in the mid 70's, and the lovebugs were really bad.

How about Texas? There are decent places (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio) where the air is dry enough not to rot out your beautiful restoration in the garage. I don't think any place in Florida can make that claim, and I know we sure can't in suburban Houston.

I moved to FL to be closer to the inlaws.........300 miles is close enough.
Would rather contend with them and the bugs (and I am not putting them in the same category), than the cold & snow.
And have had no issues of "rot", since moving down in 2005.

surprisingly, another HOT dry place; Fresno, CA and the San Joaquin Valley.. 115+ in the daytime, 70s at night...
and even more surprising, along the Columbia River in southeast Washington state... high desert and HOT and dry...

Austin is nice, lots of outdoor rec and great college football (I'm a UT TexEx). Driving (except I-35 and MoPac) is great there, with Loop 360 to West Austin (beautiful drive), towards the lake along RR2222 and RR620 is probably the best place to drive a Corvette. I grew up an hour north of Austin and went to college there, I miss it.
Excellent TexMex in both above towns.
I would never live in Dallas. Someone will crash into the rear of your vette. Horrible traffic, aggressive drivers. But, it is the city, night life, and you've got a fun lakes within driving distance for boating (Lewisville Lake, Joe Pool Lake, White Rock Lake).
If you want a nice peaceful retirement town, look into Marble Falls, TX just north west of Austin. Nice place.
