Default Has anyone rebuilt at Holley 2818?

1) Would you recommend rebuilding a Holley 2818 for the 350/365 HP motor?

2) I can buy a used carb and it probably needs to be rebuilt. I am wondering whether buying the kit, cleaning the carb and installing new parts is a futile or fruitful effort. I have rebuilt carbs for other cars and tractors with success, but not sure if these 2818 are touchy.

3) What do I have to watch out for?

Dennis,

Your questions would fare better in the General/Tech section rather than Parts for Sale.

Eric Jackson at Vintage Musclecar Parts is who I would recommend for your Holley rebuild.

2818's can be tricky and it takes an expert to get them just right, in my experience. Your carb will come back from Eric ready to bolt on and perform well.

Before buying a used one, make sure the metering blocks are 4094 and 4099. The vacuum advance connection should be threaded female, not a male hose nipple.

To add to Mike's comments, if it's an early '64 model, the date code is to the left of the part # code on the air horn. For example, 383, 393 dates are to left, 3A3 would be on right. Important to inspect and check throttle, some stick, are bent (why?), have rust, etc. Also the fuel connections, I've seen many stripped. And many are missing small parts. DD
