Default Carb removal

I'm having trouble removing my Holley Carb from the aluminum intake manifold. Don't want to damage the carb or manifold. Any suggestions or tricks for removing this safely will be appreciated!!
Thanks, Fred in AZ.

Usually a broom stick or ice scraper plastic handle other soft object leveraged under the body somewhere will be enough to pop it loose. Don't start prying under the carb with a screwdriver for Pete's sake.

You do have the 4 nuts removed, before the broom stick or driver prying starts

Yes, of course. I have removed numerous carbs and this is the first one that is this stubborn.

Agree with broomstick. All washers have been removed as well? Sometimes they hang up on threads.

If some genius has glued that carb down with gasket sealer, you could cause some serious damage by prying on it.

If a gentle nudge with the broom stick doesn't move it, I'd start a thin putty knife between the gasket and manifold adjacent to the base plate to avoid bending or warping it.

You can also try a good tap with a rubber mallet, works to break it loose, for me anyway.

I hadn't thought about somebody gluing the carb down but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if that were the case. The main thing is to not score the gasket mounting surface on the carb or manifold during removal. Then you have a whole set of new problems !

Thank you to all who answered. It would seem that some moron used a sealer to install the carb.

Fred,

When you do get it off, check that the surfaces are flat.

If someone used sealer, they either tried using a "used" gasket, or they were having leakage issues........carb mounting flanges have been known to warp (mostly from over tightening).
