Borg Warner - wont shift into reverse
I have a 63 vert with a BW T-10 and hurst shifter. It will not shift into reverse. It gets about halfway there then there is a solid metal "clunk" and the shifter just won't go that extra 1/2" required to get it onto gear. Tried moving the reverse shifter arm (on side of tranny), same thing...moves about half way then solid clunk and the shifter arm wont go any further. 1-2 & 3-4 shifts just fine.
If I hold pressure on the shifter and release the clutch it will back up, but as soon as you put the clutch back in it pops out of gear.
Any suggestions....or do I now need to pull the tranny?

Is your Hurst hinkage hitting on your pipe hanger?
Some of the Hursts will do that, mine included. I ground away that portion of the pipe hanger where the interference occured before replacing the trannie with a 5-speed. (PO just left the pipe hanger off.)

The Hurst shifter made specifically for the Corvette application had a specially-shaped reverse lever on the shifter that was contoured to clear the crossmember and pipe hanger; the "universal" Hurst shifter didn't, and wouldn't go into reverse on a Corvette without grinding additional clearance. It's grinder time.

That's what it was, interference with recent changes to the exhaust system. Didn't put 2 & 2 together as the exhaust was first of several changes over a span of 6-8 weeks and the car had not been driven. Thanks again.
