59 Generator alignment help
I am in the process of bringing my 59 back to the original. I am not sure if I have the correct generator, the generator pulley does not line up with fan & crank pulleys. Brackets on the exhaust only go on one way as per the manual. I bought the tack drive generator a few years back. Is there different size generators?
Any ideas

How close is the generator pulley to the fan on the generator? Can the u-bracket be flipped end for end? Is the 1/8" spacer on the crank behind the harmonic balancer? Are the wp and crank pulleys stamped with the correct part numbers? Is the reinforcement between the wp pulley and wp hub? Is the wp hub in the right spot on the wp shaft? Does the generator have the correct front and rear lower mounts? All are areas you'll need to check.

The crank & water pump are lined up but not the generator. I also replaced the 2 mounting brackets to exhaust. The water pump & crank pulleys are also new. Could it be the wrong generator?

How much are you off by?? and in which direction. If your generator pulley is sitting too far back you may have a passenger car pulley on there. You can elongate the holes in the flat bracket (4) to give you some adjustment and still use it. Pilot Dan

Do you have any pictures of your current set up? I had the same probelm with mine, but it was because I did not have the flat plate support bracket installed.

I can't say if it mounts like my '61 but I bet it's close. Here is a quick reality check.
Is the upper mounting tab on the generator in FRONT of the long adjustment bracket ??
Are the two lower generator mounting tabs on the OUTSIDES of the lower bracket ??

I thought maybe you had fat-fingered the generator installation but that doesn't appear to be the case. That leaves us with the generator itself. I don't know what other cars (e.g. passenger cars) would have a tach drive generator but others might. If so, then perhaps that is the problem. Do you have a red Delco-Remy tag on the generator ?? If so, what numbers are on it ? That would help identify the item. There were three gens for '59 per attachment.

A 1102084 generator was used for passenger cars with power steering. The armature shaft has the necessary extension at the rear to drive the PS pump.
The tach drive unit can be attached at the rear in place of the PS pump. However, the pulley and motor endframes are different for Corvette.
As 62corvette said, there are many factors to get a proper fit. You may be better off locating the correct Corvette generator.

Sounds like rich nailed it. Not sure the pulley will 'fill the bill' but since you already have it coming maybe worth a shot...otherwise, as stated, I'd find a later model C1 generatior.

Here's a document I found on the end frame differences(pdf link at bottom of post). The pass car generator sits higher than a 1102043 56-61 Corvette generator. If you're going to use the 1102084, keep that in mind before you close the hood. It may be a problem.

edit.....When shopping ebay etc for a 1102043 Corvette generator, be wary of sellers who re-tag the Pass car generator.
This one has the wrong end frame. Wrong2043
edit.....The seller changed the endframe in his listing....new pics added Jan 30.
However, the pulley is still wrong...
This one has the correct end frame. Correct2043

Here's another 2043 on ebay that wants $550.00. It's the wrong endframe, and even has the wrong pulley!!!! The Corvette pulley should be apx 1/2" space between the fan.

No space at pulley to fan.
You can see a bit of the endframe, and it's the longer type.

Dang - now I'm gonna have to pull my spare generator out of storage and double check it!
