what is the widest rim that can be used on a 1961 front /rear , i know the stock ones are 5 " and the big brake option ones are 5.5" .I have used the 6 "x 15 on back . 6x15 with a 215 tire ??? on front is my question !

an 8" will fit on the front but in the rear the outside of the tire will hit the wheel well lip. i suggest 7" all the way around.

For 75 and 70 series tires 7" is the widest recommended wheel.

I've run 15X7's with 225/70R15's, on my 62 for years. The tires use to just barely touch the rear fenders, on a big bump. When I needed new tires, I went down to a 215/70, and all is good now.

I've know people who've gotten away with using 8' rims, on 61/62's, usually factory 15x8 rallys. There was a guy in a Corvette club I belonged to years ago, with FR70x15 BFG T/A Radials on his 62. I don't remember him having any clearance trouble, but the rear of the car may have been raised slightly, it was the 70's.

As long as you understand the extra steering effort required with fatter tires on a stock C1 front end...

7 inch with 3.5 backspace is about max. I have 17 on front and 18 on rear 215 55 and it is tight at that.

i ran stock OEM 8" rallies (4" backspacing) all around but had to raise the rear with airshocks to get tire clearance. i now run 7" aftermarket rallys all arounf with 4-1/2" backspacing; if i were to do it again i might consider 4" backspacing.
