Hi guys,
Im just wondering if I can use a 64 hood for a 63.
I have the grilles and want to make sure they fit on a 64 hood, which looks identical to the 63????
Thanks
Gary

The 63 hood has a depression in which the grills fit.
The 64 hood does not.
the 64 sub frame does not have the access holes to attach the grills.

I believe the 63 and 64 hods both are identical in appearance.
They both have the depressions, however it was only in 63 where they actually used the grilles.
Im not 100% sure , but whatever research Ive done, all shows them to look the same...the 63/64 hoods.

No. Although the 64 hood can be used, the indents for the grills (cookie sheets) are not as deep and lack the drain hole. I have heard it is difficult to align also. If it was my car, I would choose th 63 hood

Go look at a 63 hood and a 64 hood on one of the vendors websites and see for yourself.
the 64 does not have the depression in which the grill sits.
It has a styling depression but no additional depression like the 63 hood.
Whatever.

I do appreciate it, no need to get upset!
Im just telling you what I know, which could very well be wrong!
Thanks again
and I'll go on Ecklers or one of the other sites and look..

The large indents in the 64, dont actually have the smaller inset for the 63 grills.
Thanks again

JT Piper - sometimes he is a little pricey, but he has good stuff. I've bought quite a bit from him and never dissatisfied.

63 hood
Just remember there are 2 different styles of 63 hoods. Early, with no nut plates for hood blocks and late with nut plates. They are very different if you need to run the hood blocks.....which is a whole other discussion.

If you want to be 100% correct as you say, then before you buy a 63 hood, you must first determine which of the 3 versions of the 63 hood you need. The early production 63 hood did not have the hood alignment blocks and attachment plates. The mid protection version had 4 attachment plates imbedded into the sides of the hood needed for attaching the 4 hood alignment blocks, ( 2 on each side of the hood), and the final version only used 2 alignment blocks on the hood. You can find out which version hood you need by the VIN # and your date of production, early, mid or late production. Len

What part of the vin will tell me about the production date?
And what are the breakdowns for late or early model?
