'62 Chassis Value?

'62 Chassis Value?
Hi guys. We just built a '62 Corvette for a customer and we swapped the chassis to an Art Morrison. What's left over is a clean restored original '62 Chassis & original 327 & 4-speed. All is clean and working- what's a realistic price for the stock rolling chassis w/engine? Is it better to break up the chassis engine and trans? Thanks Jim

Man, that's a tough one!
I personally am NOT a numbers matching person. If it is possible, it is nice to have all the numbers matching, but my goal is to achieve functionality over numbers.
So, If this is a numbers matching frame, engine, 4sp and rearend, then certainly it will command a higher value than if it is a mixture of components.
So, with that said, I would think the COMPLETE rolling chassis would have a value of $3000-5000. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT, for the person out there who really needs that rolling chassis, or at least most of it, the value COULD go as high as $7000-9000.

Believe there were two complete setups by vendor gate at Old Town, price was $11.5k?? on one and it was later marked sold. Surprised me.., thought it was pretty high.

Here's one with a $10K negotiable price that you just need to drop a body on AND has the drivetrain and many new parts included: http://www.vettehound.com/geo/classi...php?a=2&b=3904

If you are talking the pimped out restomod chassis with half/shafts, IFS, etc. they are different beasts entirely. I can tell you that I saw repro frames in the ORIGINAL configuration two rows forward of the SSSACC tent last year at Kissimmee for like $4,700 (that's without the drivetrain of course). Originals come up for sale on the forum once in a while and are usually in the price range above.

As soon as I get my Obama bucks, I'll get Mike to mate up my 60 with one of those "pimped out restomod chassis"

I apologize for being off topic, but the fact that this is a 62 brings a question to mind that has bothered me about potentially restomodding my 61. If you replace the frame and steering column, what proof do you have that you haven't just built a kit car? It seems that the person you sold the chassis to would have a better legal case for the vin than you would, especially if its a complete chasis with the column!
Again, sorry for drifting off topic but I'd really love to know how you guys handle the vin issue on 61's and 62's.

Hey Jim, I am in the market for a 61 frame, but would consider a chassis for the right price. let me know if it is still available.

Just a question to the OP (understanding that this is an old thread from 2/12):
If you are selling a complete numbers matching frame, engine, and trans, then what good is it (from a numbers matching standpoint) without the VIN tag and title?

Therein lies the rub. The reverse situation of a NOM on a correct frame. If I were the builder of the resto mod, I would keep the frame and drive train. It is conceivable that it might add more residual value to the resto mod when he sells it than what it might be worth today as a rolling chassis. Only one body can legitimately goes back on that frame. If that chassis/motor is worth $8K in today's market, that would not be enough of an incentive for me to want to sell it.
