Unexpected brake bleeding problem on 64
Hit a snag this afternoon in my on going rear suspension project. Got the rear brakes put back together on my 64 (drum brakes - power) and went to bleed them. I have a willing assistant, so I was using some clear tubing and a catch bottle - the old fashioned non technical way. Forgot that I had left a fitting loose at the tee connection from weeks ago and had my wife pumping the pedal to pressurize the system and of course lost quite a bit of brake fluid. When I realized what was happening, I had her stop pumping, but of course when I went to check the MC reservoir it was empty. So I cleaned out what little debris was in the bottom of the MC with a paper towel - there was hardly any as the MC was replaced a few years ago.
So here's my question - is there a different procedure now that the MC was emptied and the only fluid in the system is in the lines and wheel cylinders or do I just fill it and bleed as normal? I realize I'll need to now buy a larger container of fluid and it will probably take longer to get the air out since the MC was emptied.
Also, when I took the MC cover off the rubber bladder seemed to be sucked downward into the bowl - I assume it just needs to be pushed back up into the cap as this was caused by the brake pedal being pumped?
Any tips or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, Tim
