Default Waiting on parts

Everything is finished now and the engine is running. Still waiting on parts from the Sh*t heads at FRANKFORD PLATING! Whatever you do, do not use this company. They have lied to me so many times now about the status of my parts and shipping of my parts that i have lost count.

Here you can slightly see the thick cork valve cover gaskets that are necessary for the correct clearance between the covers and the roller rockers. I also had to bend the oil drippers out of the way, which was no big deal since these are reproduction valve covers, one of the two things replaced on the engine..carb was the other. Done by previous owner.

Here you can see the autogear transmission box. The bolts were loose in the front of the transmission when my father purchased the car and unfortunately the bolt holes ended up becoming enlarged to the point where the original transmission box is now just a show piece on the garage shelf.

Whose engine paint did you use on the block? I've always liked the more orangish (less redish orange) engine paint for the block. Again - a nice job.

just noticed this thread for the first time and read it start to finish. I felt like Bill Murry in groundhog day....so many similarities in the things I am experiencing with mine. Thanks for posting...I thought I was crazy with my goal of doing my body off in 6 months. This makes me realize it is possible.

great thread!

Thanks! This is my 6th frame off restoration, but i think 6 months is pretty doable if you arent repainting the car. I was waiting on the frame dippers and the engine builder before and now i am waiting on parts from the platers, otherwise i would have finished it a while ago.

Run video. It isn't tuned perfectly, but it's close for only being able to run it at limited intervals on the chassis.

Thanks! This car turned out to have a lot more wrong with it than i thought. It seems like every part i removed needed to be addressed. I'm used to the "To Do" list adding up during a restoration, but this one was really ridiculous. It looks great though and the engine with the new high lift hydraulic roller cam sounds incredibly powerful. I haven't heard a 427 rev this quickly ever. it's really impressive.

Here are a few more pictures that were taken prior to the body drop.

Thicker gaskets for clearance of the full roller rockers. They aren't noticeable once the body is on.

The car is finished, minus side pipe covers and alignment. I took it for a spin yesterday and "set" the piston rings. This thing will absolutely light up the tires now. The larger valves, minor port work, and the new roller cam really livened up this engine. I had no idea a 427 with the stock cast oval port heads and intake could make this much power. It's going to be a really great car and I couldn't be happier with the results. Hopefully my father can enjoy it for many years to come. His 65th Birthday is exactly one month and all the bugs/minor details should be squared away just in time.
This is a cell phone video, so the sound isnt the best, but you will get the idea.
These are Allen's Factory sound sidepipes.

Specs on Howard's hydraulic roller cam are: 225/235 duration .591/.601 lift on a 112 lobe separation. It cleared the speed pro forged pistons that match the stock 390hp piston dome profile without issue.

Well done!

BTW: After watching that video, I think I'll be firing up my car tomorrow morning for the start of a new driving season.

That cam sounds a lot like mine. It gives me some motivation to get out and figure out what I fried in my ignition system on the last drive. Great job of restoration. You should be very proud of that effort - I'm sure your Dad will be.

I have been living vicariously through this fast moving thread. In my garage it's just crickets and cobwebs. See pics below, maybe you can see the cobwebs...

So, so true. It actually motivated me to dive into my ignition problem today. Unfortunately it confirmed I fried my CD amplifier. So more crickets until I can get new (expensive) parts.
