Skids,
You are correct...the Van Steel removable crossmember isnt doable with the body on the frame.
I called yesterday and talked to their tech guy.
Another way to go is how Hurst Driveline modifies the crossmember. It is similar to Jacks...I'll dig up the photos and get them posted.

Removable Crossmember pics
No intent to hijack...wanted to share another approach/idea.
I talked with Hurst Driveline tech guys and this is what they have done. Again, similar to what Jack fabricated. I also shared this design with a local hot rod/race car chassis builder and he was satisfied that this would maintain the structural integrity.
The pics dont show both sides but there are 6 grade 8 bolts on each side of the flanges.
BTW: I just force-fed a TKO-600 into my 67 and it was a &itch...had to do it twice so I have had my fill of pulling the engine to get to the trans.
I am having this crossmember mod done in the coming weeks.

This is another simple approach to create a removable cross member while the body is on the chassis. I do the same thing even if I have the body off.
I drill 2 3/8 holes on both sides and bolt in. Had one of these in use for over 10 years no problems.

I usually hang out in the C3 section (since I have one) but a search led me here. I am wanting to change my crossmember to a removable while my body is off but I cant find the dimensions for the hole placement of the threaded holes on the underside of the chassis or placement of the weld on bracket. Can you give me some dimensions?
Thanks

Crunch527 has the best setup I've ever seen. When I do mine in a couple years, I'm following this mod. Dennis

This thread is about making the r&r of any 4/5speed trans easy. Some guys pull the engine and trans together and some actually fight it by taking the trans out from underneath. This mod, whichever method you select, is the ticket. Dennis

I understand what the thread is about but can't follow exactly what silverslashstreak did what and where he bolted. I'm installing a keisler 5sp and what to avoid pulling the engine.

Once the center section is out, the ends of the center section could be cut straight with a abrasive chop saw. Just wondering how to make a nice straight cut initially.
