If it's only slightly loose, adjust it to the correct position and then use a drop of blue loc-tite on the ball. It will seep in around the ball and tighten things up a bit. I've done it on several mirrors over the years and it works every time and only takes 1 min. to do. If it's so loose that it just flops around, you need a new mirror.

I had the same problem and did what Jim said with the Loc-tite.It worked great. I even suggested the same fix to a friend with a 69 coupe that has a side view mirror that wouldn't stay in place.

Or you can repair the root cause of the looseness and still be able to adjust the mirror as needed; see Dave Zuberer's fix.

Not sure if this is a question or a statement. I believe the interior mirrors have the glass glued in (not sure though) and as such are a little trickier to remove. I have never done one of those. I'd be inclined to try the loctite fix if indeed the mirror glass is glued in.

Mine was constantly needing adjustment, just so happens when i went to adjust it, the mirror fell out.
It looked very similar to the outside mirror where the ball mounts inside.
So i fixed the attachment, made sure it stays put, took it apart, had it re-chromed, put back together.
I used clear silicone to attach/glue the mirror to the metal, so far so good.

I know this is an old post, but it is a good one. I am trying to tighten the side mirror on my 65 coupe. When I went to my mirrors for step one, the driver's side (that does not wobble) has the clip in the first picture of the PDF; however, there is no clip on the drivers side mirror. I tried gently prying the mirror, but I am afraid to put too much pressure on the glass.
Any suggestions to get the mirror off???

I am working on the driver's side mirror.
Just to clarify: I am not asking how to take the entire mirror assembly off the door. I want to take the glass mirror off the chrome bowl so I can tighten the ball. The clip is not on the glass (it was that way when I bought it a year ago). I tried gentle prying, but I am afraid of breaking the glass.

Sounds like you have a repop..
You might have to remove from car and soak in some sort of release agent...to get mirror out...

carefull on use of liquid cement on mirror ball to tighten
I tried this on my side view (drivers side) mirror. Had a drip from mirror (too much cement) that ruined the paint on my driver side door.Just my 2 cents of regret Abe G

I tried Loc-tite on my '63 inside mirror, didn't work. New one from CorvetteCentral did the trick. And it looks nice too. The old one was showing the signs of its age anyway.

If there is no clip, the mirror glass is glued in. I have a tube of mirror glue and it said to use mineral spirits to remove the glue. Haven't tried it yet.
I have tried diesel fuel - no luck, and now have it soaking in lacquer thinner overnight.
I'll keep watching for anyone that has experience in this as I am using a junk 68 mirror for experimenting, but have a repop on the 68RS and the inside rear view mirror on R66 that I want to disassemble.
