I just removed and replaced my intake manifold but forgot to mark the original location of the rotor and distributor. Can someone tell me how to reinstall the distributor and set the timing?

I tried to put the distributor back in the location that I thought it was original in but the car backfired loudly when I tried to start it. Does that hurt anything?

See page 6Y-4 in your ST-12 manual; it describes the procedure. Check to make sure the throttle shaft and throttle plates aren't damaged.
