Default C2 Vert - Today's Update

Got the tranny hooked back up without much effort. It didn't correct my fan hitting the fan shroud issue

So, I pulled the fan and fan clutch from the car. Got out the ballpean and a piece of wood and have been going to town.

Getting there, but still some room to go.

I'm figuring another coming shortly.

Will keep you posted

The part number should be stamped on the fan. I am not sure what it is but maybe another forum member could pitch in. Or, check the assembly manual.

Nope, no number. But there is a capital H stamped on the fan under the clutch

Mike your fan is identical to mine....I have pix if you need one......including the Switzer fan clutch, but mine has " W" stamped on it. It should measure 17 inches if I remember correctly.

The front bi-metallic element that controls the clutch action (by varying the pressure on the valve pin in the center) is missing from that clutch.

So, how do I fix that, and does it hurt? Hurt meaning if it isn't there, not the cost...

Mike, it may not be as easy as replacing the missing parts. As John said the Bi Metal Element, which is missing is sensitive to heat and changes the pressure on the Pin valve which is not present in your picture. The pin valve is behind the Bi Metal strip. Inside the clutch fan housing is silicon oil and you may or may not have oil in the clutch fan assy, so that means it will not work. You may want to get yourself a replacement fan clutch and have yours rebuilt. Good luck, Wes

How does the temp run on your car? If it runs hot I would replace it.

Fan hitting the fan shroud (It looks like your fan is correct diameter 17") I think could be a function of how the front end under the radiator support is shimmed. Can you post a picture of that area with the fan in place? Pilot Dan

I can try to get a pic of that, although I have adjusted the parts as necessary to get everything to flow...

Dan, the car was a CF when I bought it. Everyone knows, "you get what you pay for". Well I got it and I have paid, dearly.

This weekend, I "slighty modified" the fan shroud, to where it seemed to more freely around the shroud. This was accomplished by hand mounting the fan on the waterpump stub that goes into the fan clutch base to, to ensure clearance.

Last night I mounted the fan on the water pump. Turns out I had one blade still hitting the shroud slightly. I took a couple of pieces of 1/4 inch plywood, put on either side of the fan blade, put a big C clamp on it, and "slighty modified" to get it to clear. My car has appeared to be in a demolition derby a few times owver the years, and something may have been bent during the race. If I remember when I blasted and cleaned the radiator support, I think it had a small bend in it, but that was at least 11 years ago whern I cleaned up the support.

You never want to bend or modify a fan blade!!!!!! That's a recipe for disaster because the imbalance will lead to vibration and damage. These fans were / are balanced at manufacture. Figure another way to solve the clearance problem. Pilot Dan

I was looking at my fan and there is about an inch clearance all around so you have a serious bend. Can u post the fan measurement? Maybe you have the wrong fan
