Vinyl Wrap over 15 to 20 footer paint?
Just read that some of you out there that race their vette vinyl wrap them. I was wondering what are the pros and cons to wrap a vette with a older looking 15 - 20 footer paint job as a temporary measure until time for a full restore and paint.
The cost is atleast 1/3 cheaper than a full proper paint over.
Opinions anyone? or is this a no-no?

If they were paying me to advertize yes, hopefully enough for a paint job at the end of the contract.

Are we talking car condom ?
This is like your doctor telling you that you need surgery that you don't want to pay for
so you just ask him to "touch up" the X-rays.
If the car needs painted just keep things honest until you can afford to get it done...

Not as crazy an idea as some of you think.
If you look in the C5 or C6 section you'll see some people have done it with great results.
If done by a pro it looks interesting.
Some have Plasti-dipped their entire car as well.
I personally wouldn't do it,but it's your car. Do whatever you like.

I have seen many, many modern cars with wraps on them. Done properly, they will last for many years and look great. Just saw a Ford GT with a wicked wrap, that a guy drove and I believe set a record in the Mojave mile. Saw a Ferrari or Lambo on line the other day that was done in Denim black (Harley color) or as others would call flat black, that looked stunning......Never seen one done on an older car, but am sure it can be done by a good installer. Probably work great and buy you some time before actually giving it a proper paint job. just my .02. Good luck

I like the vinyl wrapping, it gives you a chance to go really wild with the car while maintaining the paint underneath. And once you get bored with the wrapping you can always just get rid of it. My 65 has a full wrap. I will do a full body off on it next winter so for time being that wrap gives it a fresh new look.

and it looks OUTSTANDING, I wouldn't change it. Nice touch on the windshield.

I'm still trying to 'wrap' my head around the idea. (Excuse the pun). I'm still not sure that is the right way to deal with a marginal paint job...but the car in the photos above does not look bad I have to admit...

There is a guy @ work that brings his C5 to work @ times. It's wrapped with a dull black - don't like the "color", but the wrap job is amazing. I understand he paid @ $1500 for it. I'm checking into it for my 36 year old paint job!

I would guess more for the guys that race, as who would race with a $15,000 paint job.

I have been told ranges from $1,500 to $4,000. Nothing beats real paint, which I will have done, but only after my new chasis is done. But since it is so relatively cheap you can experiment with what can be done. Just wanted to get the opinions of the guys that have done it.

Wrapping a Corvette sounds way too close to ricer territory to me, but I understand kids are doing all kinds of stuff I hate. However, it seems like a crazy waste of money to me if the cost of a wrap really is 1/3 the cost of a paint job. I'd rather spend the money on the first third of the new paint job.
