Default Fuel Guage - 62 Vette

The fuel guage on my '62 has been acting erratic. When I turn on the ignition, it might read 1/2 and than when I start ther engine, it may go to 3/4. If I rev the engine, it tends to move higher.

I replaced the sending unit today, and now the guage reads full. I know that the tank has less than 2 gallons in it. I hooked up the old sending unit outside of the gas tank and even when I moved the float lever, the guage still reads full. I had the guage checked out several months ago and it is calibrated correctly. Any ideas on what I can troubleshoot? Thanks.

Common problem, try running a clean ground to the sending unit.

I ran mine straight to the frame. The sending unit ground is tied up with the taillight ground and will give you all kinds of crazy readings.

Solder a ground wire to the top of the sender and then route to a ground on the frame or elsewhere.

Here's an article about grounding the sending unit and tail lights.
