Internation Brands sharing our info
Is everyone getting the pop up for "Internet Brands"?
http://www.internetbrands.com/privac...ighlights.html
It says in a very nice way that they take our personal info and give it to companies at their discretion.
I suppose that it's good that they disclose it but I don't really like it. Among alternatives given are to manage cookies (I don't know how), respond to each email that we don't want more emails from each individual company, or to delete our membership.
I suppose the site has to be paid for.

They really should provide an 'opt-in'/'opt-out' choice.

I am probably looking at this wrong, but I don't see a problem. No different than buying stuff from Summit Racing and getting their catalogs in the mail or emails from them.
They have this statement as well and to me this is the more important one...

We do not sell, rent or provide your personal information to third parties that are unaffiliated with Internet Brands. Your personal information is shared with third parties with your consent, except in circumstances where the law requires it to be shared.
So, I am ok with it.......

Unfortunately Herb, the whole 'third party' thing is vague and that stuff tends to proliferate. Any third party that doesn't care to follow IB's model can shotgun your stuff anywhere and frankly, I get enough junk emails/direct snail mails. I don't need my breasts enlarged, or cures for baldness, or, any male body part 'enhanced'...

I'm Italian - I don't need to brag!
Anyway -- there are 8 'tracking cookies' in play on the forum already (and have been) so third parties have had some limited info for a long time -- unless you block them as I do with 'ghostery' free s/w...
I expect this thread to get locked pretty quickly.

You can opt out when you check out from most vendors. Plus, it's a vendor that you've chosen to do business with!

How and when did I consent or "unconsent"?
except in circumstances where the law requires it to be shared.
What law would require it to be shared

Really! What if you weren't OK with it?

Privacy? Forgetaboutit. Anyone here use Facebook? Internetbrands.com has nothing on ektron. At least internetbrands is telling you they are doing something. You should see what we can do when we are running our site on ektron. You might stop using the internet.

I found this today and what a bummer...
I had hoped this was one place where our data would not be mined for targeted advertisements and other such nonsense.
It's funny, I don't mind the adverts on the left side of the screen with the sponsors. The problem is this steps up a whole level to something that rates as intrusive.
As far as FB, I have pretty much stopped using the site. Not worth it to me.
Ah well, I guess a company has to do what they feel best.
Just my 2c worth.

I work with different "E-Discovery" tools now available that sweep all these "social media" sites along with everything else to gather evidence for litigation/evidence purposes/etc. Its pretty scary what turns up and how long it lingers in cyberspace...

The way I understand it, nothing has changed at Corvetteforum, but the policy is written to encompass all IB sites, including those engaged in product sales. There's a contact link for IB, however, so contact them and get them to address any questions or concerns you might have.

Even wishing someone a happy birthday on an internet forum exposes part of the data required to steal someone's identity.

Don't do FB, Tweet, hotmail, gmail, or Linked-In (which was recently hacked)...

People are real naive ... they think the Internet is a private conversation between one (or more) friends...it is NOT. By the time you get an email at least seven other people that you don't know might have read it (if they wished to) as it passes through various servers and Internet components... Be careful - it's a jungle out there !
