Default C1 Spare Tire Size equivilant

I searched but couldn't find the answer.
I'm looking for a cheapo spare that fits into the spare tub. Is there a modern size equivilant for the 670-15(for a 58)?

Not really, unless you want something shorter in height.

Modern tires with that diameter, are wider, and the wood cover won't fit down properly.

I would consider spare from a S-10 or something, if you just want a usable spare and don't care about height and profile.

I guess I'll have to search for a cheap "antique" tire. I just don't like the wood cover not laying flat.
I need to buy 1 Coker (need to replace one of the American Classics) for about $230 (for probably a $150 tire) and
$130 or so is the lowest I can find for the 670. Nobody said this hobby is cheap!

I have an S-10 compact spare in my '61 tub and it actually gives enough extra room to store a few roadtrip 'goodies' under the wooden cover. It does have some drawbacks....most of the S-10 spares are old and might be 'iffy' and you can't run it on the rear of a positraction car due to its size. I was lucky and found a "never been on the ground" S-10 compact spare that had been tucked in a climate controlled storage facility and looks like new.

Doug is right the modern tires that fit will have your wooden spare tub cover sitting up maybe 3/4" or even more and imprints on the rubber trunk mat and is quite noticeable. First two pics are modern full size spare; last pic is compact spare in the tub.

Another idea for a spare:

Install an inner tube in the tire you designate as a spare and keep the spare deflated. If you need to use it, inflate it at the time of need using either an electric compressor or a can of "fix a flat".

when I go to Discount Tire and put in Chev S-10 I get 205/75/15 as a size.
What size are you refering to?

No, Frankie is referring to the Temporary Spare Tire from a S-10 (Blazer or S-15 Jimmy). The regular S-10 tires will never work...........

You can see the wording "Temporary" on the side wall on his bottom picture.

Best source is a junk (wrecking / bone) yard. You are looking for a Temporary Spare Tire in this size or larger that fit a 5 bolt 4-3/4" dia. bolt pattern:

The T155/80D16 is 26.0" dia. and a section width of 6.10"

Evidently some S10's used a larger spare (90 aspect ratio, instead of my 80), which is taller. Can't confirm if it will work on a C1 (it should), but does on a C2 (even with original disc brakes):

T155x90D16 Temporary Spare

Measuring the height of the tire it's right at 27"...same as F70x15's.

Don't know if GM used a bigger size than the T155 (that was the largest that I could find in the bone yard.

I'll look or just go for an inexpensive 670-15 from one of the antique tire sites.

My temporary spare is from and 83 Olds 98, the rim has 2 different hole patterns. Give you enough room in the tub for plenty of spare parts, tools, coveralls, oil etc.

That'll only work if the 6.70-15 is an original pre-DOT tire (which you can't drive on anyway); reproduction 6.70-15's with DOT on them will all be too wide to let the cover sit flat in the trunk floor. DOT regulations require that tires be inflated as soon as they come out of the hot mold, so the reproduction tires are slightly wider than the non-DOT originals were. Either live with the raised cover or get a T155/80D16 or T155/90D16 '95-'99 S-10 compact spare.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up on that. I would have bought a tire that would give me the same problem. I'm surprised with what seems to be a common problem hasn't been addressed by a tire specialty company.
Where would I find a T155/80D16 or T155/90D16 '95-'99 S-10 compact spare? Would that definitely solve the problem?

An S-10 compact T155/90D 16 spare with a 4-3/4” bolt pattern works perfectly....it will fit both front and rear of a C1 with nice clearance. In a posi car if you have a rear flat it's best to move a front tire to the rear and put the compact spare on the front unless your spare is EXACTLY the same diameter as the other rear tire. Otherwise the differential will think its in a constant turn and wear out your clutch pacs.

I got mine on ebay for like $40...absolutely pristine..never on the ground. Here it is test-fitted on the front and rear of my '61.

The wheel probably won't fit but still may be worth it just for the tire. Jeeps use 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern same as F@&D. A 84-85 C4 16 inch spare wheel may work, not sure of wheel width but the tire be very short, about 26 inchs.

You were told what works, and where to search for it........everything else is a crap shoot, and not in your favor.

Sorry for being blunt.
