Default Engine compartment of 1967 327/350

Any ideas to change/critiques? I'm having it judged this summer. Special attention to fasteners, etc. I'm new to this, so any ideas would be great. Thanks

I agree The steering gear box & cap were painted prier to machining & assembly so only the castings should be flat black. It looks like the whole engine bay are the same semigloss black if so you will get hit as inner fenders ETC are not the same color. Don't do anything else till you get the books. No sense of doing things twice. Another thing about the body paint make sure the door jams, hood drip rail and under bumpers are dull & not buffed. You loose all paint points if they are.
GOOD LUCK KEN

Thanks for the info. I actually used 2 different paints--one for frame (Chassis black--satin), and one for inner fenders (Engine Compartment Paint, Black, Wurth Part # 88-0192-1). Thought this was correct, but I'll look into it.
The steering column had thick black paint on it, so I stripped it, and it looked terrible, so I put a light coat of Aluminum blast on it. Still looks bad...agree. I'll figure something out.
I'll get some blacking cast paint, and re-do some. Appreciate the info. Frame parts OK with the Chassis satin? Some cast parts with the black cast? Not sure...
No idea on the fuel line clamps...I'll look. Thanks for the help. Appreciate the info.

Default More engine pics--refined

Still wrong master cylinder cap, but corrected other things. Any more comments? Putting the engine in soon. I bought a new steering coupler, but waiting for the new spacer. Replaced the fuel line clamps, and new shock washers. Anything else? Thanks!!

Default engine compartment

Not the greatest photos, but here goes. Looks like heater box fiberglass is painted black like engine compartment......should be natural black fiberglass. A Arm shims are painted......should be cad plated. I think upper a arm nuts should be plated, but check judging manual. What kind of battery is that? If its GM, then OK. If aftermarket, its a full deduct.

Default more photos...

Hope this is better. I really don't want to take the arms off completely.
What are your thoughts on the proportioning valve--painted or not...my guess not. I have to re-do the master cylinder underneath. Thanks again. Battery aftermarket...I'll take that hit. Sorry upside down/sideways. Can't get to upload correct.Name: vette5.jpg

The proportioning valve is NOT painted If you get a new delco you will get some points.

It's not a proportioning valve (they were only used on J-56 cars) - it's the differential pressure warning switch, and they were natural (not painted).

Default engine compartment

Staples and A-Arm dust shields should be painted black like engine compartment. Delco batteries are only around $60. Or peel the stickers off the one you have and find a blue Delco sticker from a shock or similar and stick it on...........but you didnt hear it from me!

how is that going to help? a original R59 Delco battery has no blue sticker. for judging they have a flow chart for things like this. if you have a service replacment ( new delco) you get so much off, if you have a repro dated battery you get so much off, and if you have any other battery you get so much off

Default More shots...engine in today or tomorrow

Final shots...cleaning up some tonight, but not much. Have to clean the brake lines of some old overspray. Fixed the heater box. Read in the judging guide that it usually has some overspray around the sides with undercoating or paint to help with the seal. Resprayed some of the frame gloss black according to guide...still wet though in some areas. Some shots are hard to get in my garage with the wash out. Sorry last one blurry. Thanks for all your help gents...I'm a novice but loving it.

Upper control arm dust flaps should be tucked under the control arms just outboard of the top shock nuts - see photo below.
