C1 heartbreak
I'm a C5 guy, but I saw something Sat. evening that was heart- breaking, and I'm sure my C1 brothers will relate. I'm from Maryland, but I was at Cape Kennedy last weekend and by blind luck ran into a celebration of the 50th anniv. of John Glenns' orbits of the Earth in '62. The remaining astronauts were brought to the site by a local Corvette clubs' cars. Glenn was riding in an Aqua/white cove model. The driver misjudged a right turn and struck a raised concrete curb. He appeared to damage the under side fiberglas and perhaps the frame as well. It made an ungodly noise, but perhaps it was not as bad as it sounded. It really hurt to see that beautiful car crunched like that. I felt sorry for the embarrassment he must have felt, not to mention the damage to his car.... If anyone out there knows how much damage was done, please let me know. I had to leave before the ceremony was over, and couldn't get close enough for a photo.

The guy circled the earth back before it was commonplace....I'm sure a little curb smack didn't phase him one bit...
