I've got a T56 Magnum hooked up to my 64'Vert with a LS7. It's on a new, original style frame (not an SRIII chassis). We had to cut the tunnel about an extra 1.5 inches (I think) to fit. No modifications to the crossmember. I have a few pictures on my site.

I just got home from trying figure out my 6 speed Richmond install, so far I have raised the Long Shifter 7/16" and forward 1 1/4 next the lever arms will need new tabs welded on the two inside sliders moving them back about 7/8" then fabricating rear mount. This with the body off, later this week I hope to trial fit the body and check tunnel clearance. Too dumb to stop now. It is not difficult to make the ROD fit but will take time and a lot easier with the body off. good luck, Keith

On a C2 you might be better using the T5, the T56 will require mods. I know you can probably get a better deal on the GTO combination, but you may be dollars ahead just buying the motor and picking up a T5 and it will handle the LS2 with no problems.
