Cockpit & engine are both cooler with the two valves shut off -- I'm convinced of it. I'm thinking the coolant flow rate is up since water doesn't have to be pushed through the heater core and valve...

If that's so, you have flow issues with your cooling system. It's common knowledge that turning your heater on high will help cool the engine and help prevent overheating.

Can't say -- I just know what my gauges are telling me...

Frank
water doesn't flow through a C1 heater core all the time. the only way it could be HOT is if the valve was leaking or the heat was slowly being conducted through the standing water in the hose til it gets to the heater.

Come on guys, Frank's a good guy, he just forgot he was driving in Northern Fla where it's a LOT cooler............

Sorry Frank, didn't mean this to get into a theoretical engine cooling issue.......but again, thanks for the info and pics.

one other comment on that valve....if you look at the way it works and how flimsy the internals look, I'd be real surprised if some coolant isn't leaking past the valve and running through the heater core all the time.

I am well aware that the heater core is an add'l radiating device that dissipates heat...I drove the car for 2 hours again today in 90* stop n' go...and it runs noticeably cooler.
I'm not delusional...the d@mn gauge tells me this. My heater core is not plugged up or restricted.

Maybe its the tinfoil hat I wear to keep alien thought transmissions from affecting me..

Guess I could open the valves again and see if it runs differently... In any event I'm done with the topic...
