C2's and Tall People
Hi All,
I am a fairly recent member of the forum and have been lurking for about a year as I try to find the right C2 to purchase. I have tried a couple on for size...a 64 coupe seemed okay but recently I test drove a 66 convertible and found things a bit tight for my 6'5" 260lb frame. Clearance between legs and steering wheel was a problem. Leg room was okay but far from what I had hoped. I backed off C1's because I was told no way I was fitting in...are C2's the same? Do all years have the same interior dimensions?
I know there are probably mods I could make to help me fit better but right now I am just asking about the fit into a C2 with the stock interior dimensions.

The convt will have less head room, but how much, I'm not sure. You can put a smaller steering wheel on, but you should have P/S with that change. Make sure the seat is adjusted as far back as possible. Some seat tracks are really gummed up and will not go back all the way. I'm sure we have some members here matching your stature. Good luck! I believe interior dimensions from 63-67 are the same within the same body style (coupe for coupe, convertible for convertible).
I'm 6'2" and fit "comfortably" in my stock 65 coupe, although my long legs are a bit close to the steering wheel.

I agree, a tilt would be the best fix unless you're a stickler on correctness. You can use a little thinner foam in the bottom and adjust the cover to get a little more leg room, but a one or two inch smaller wheel will do wonders if you already have power steering.

I am 6'2 250. I would find the C2 unbearable if I was any taller. Thats the way a C1 is for me now.
I was 195 when I had my first C2 convertible. Nothing bothered me then. Even the lack of A/C.
But the C1 was still a tight fit.
The weight or girth is as big a factor as height.
At 250 I am very comfortable with the top down. Ingress or egress is always a neck strain when the tops are up. No head clearance issues with either top once settled in.
At 6'5 I suggest you wear a bug shield on your forehead.
If the seats have new foam, you will sit even higher.

I'm 6'4" 180 pounds and its a tight fight in both the coupe and convertible. my biggest problem is at a stop making a left turn with the turn single stalk and my left foot on the clutch and me trying to turn the car with no power steering. other then that its liveable. having a tele column helps too.

Body height is the composition of upper and lower torso. I am 6'2" with shorter legs (30 inch inseam) and the rest of me is upper torso. I fit, but would not want to be 6'3
If you are long legged you have a better chance of fitting in a coupe then if you are long torso.
I am at max for torso My hair drags on the headliner and I have about an inch for bumps.

I'm 6'4", 220 lbs., 34/35" inseam, and am very comfortable in my 64 coupe. Getting in/out is mainly an issue of getting the thighs past the big ole "faux teak steering wheel"
No power steering, so the helm will stay as it isn't that much of an issue. Though at my height/build, thicker built thighs could be an.... "issue"
I also make sure to get my wallet out as I get IN the car, especially if 'take out' or tolls could come up. Once settled in, getting to in the back pocket requires a bit of.... is 'contortionism' a word...?
Over all though, getting in/out isn't really hard, and in it, the car "feels" very, very nice. Plenty of room for me.
I've owned the car less than 1/2 a year, and that drivers seat is the chair I've been the happiest with in my 52 years.

6'4" 355lbs 35" inseam. My 66 vert has plenty of headroom with the top up, but with the stock steering wheel I had trouble with my thigh getting caught between the steering wheel and the shifter. I went to a smaller steering wheel which helped, but didn't look right to me. I got a tele-column and that solved all the leg clearence problems with the stock steering wheel and makes getting in and out much easier. I also fixed the brake pedal stop that had broken off and switched the clutch to the quick release position, lowering both pedals. Very comfortable car to drive now.

I'm 6'4" and just completed a 1700 mile trip in my 65 coupe. No issues whatsoever. A little stiff getting out but that's probably due to my advanced age more than the car.

Thanks for all the great responses. I am feeling better about the fit situation based upon the input received and my search for my C2 will continue. If and when the time comes that I am the proud owner of a C2, I will definitely look into installing the telescoping steering wheel...perhaps I might even find a car with one already installed. I know that in my 65 Sunbeam Tiger the telescoping steering wheel, which is standard equipment, is the key to me fitting in comfortably.

There is a routine to getting into a coupe.
1) *** in first, head down
2) pull head in without getting beamed
3) Swing legs in
4) shuffle *** around to find the sweet spot
5) sit belly on steering wheel
6) fly

A frequent question here on the Forum....I am 6'4" and 240. I fit OK in my '65 Coupe. Not something I'd take a cross country tour in, but OK. A lot depends on the seat buns (cushions). Older ones will let you sag and sit deep into the seat. Newer ones will sit high and get you closer to the steering wheel and the roof. Mine are 20 years old, but with only about 5,000 miles on them since the restoration, they still feel new and sit high.
