Nice, can't wait to see pictures of your restoration; my first Vette was a '58; I bought it for $1,000, that was in '69, it was a 270hp, two four barrel, 098 cam four speed with 32,000 one owner miles on it. Of course, I got rid of that 283, sold it for $75 complete with the duel fours and everytime I saw the buyer of it, it complained he got screwed. I also gave the hubcaps away to my buddy for his pickup.

I looked at another 58 barn car years ago that had the same looking rear decklid. Was from someone forcing the lid closed when the top was not properly stowed and left it that way.

Good luck with the resto. As someone else asked, any idea of the original color? Should be able to tell by looking up under the dash.

Restoration??

Give it a quick clean, get it roadworthy, then use it as the coolest daily driver ever.

It's not like you'd be worried about car-park dents.

I believe it's in California, Matt Clarke is travelling around the US inspecting cars right now, he may have already inspected this one so you'll have a head start.

For more details please call Matt on 727-364-8707

It's in L.A.

Some more pics here:

Matt isn't inspecting it to NCRS detail, just basics like rust, frame, body, etc. He may do a video and run through it.

Any guess as to how many original parts are still on the car? 12? 18?

Thanks for adding this detail Stephen.

Just some clarification guys. I was in the process of purchasing but had to pull out. Car is still in the US as Stephen has advised above.

It was listed for 27.5k, I believe Matt got him down to 24k, not sure if he got it any lower after the inspection.
