i would think the NCRS would want their paying members not to get screwed so they would warn them in their publications what to look out for when buying a corvette.

i know there are people in the NCRS make a living out of telling people what is legit but i would think it would help the new NCRS guy get started in the hobby and not get pissed off and quit.

Not sure we should be hanging the dealer unless the owner is sure they forged it. If it took engine disassembly to figure it out there is a chance the dealer was also played.

After talking to my mechanic who has worked around early Corvettes most of his life, this is relatively common and in some cases so well done that fake cars go on to receive NCRS awards etc. The numbers game is just that in my opinion, just too easy to fake.

Since this appears to be the only Hattey Auto thread I could find...
There's a 67 427/435 car for sale by them on ebay right now. Matching numbers, vin 6423, mileage 22093. Here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Corvette-conv-1967-corvette-conv-427-435-matching-numbers-/121146042310?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c34dde7c6
Back in March the car was for sale on ebay by Valley Auto of Bedford Pa, matching numbers 327/350, vin 6423, mileage 22093. Same vin and trim tag. It doesn't appear to have sold in the auction. Here it is:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us

Hattey's listing says: as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied...
seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness...
Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to beconstrued as a warranty of any type...
