I agree that you need to be informed and know what you are doing before plunking down $100k plus for a car that is misrepresented for what is is not. The difference between a real 67 435 car and a 67 SB could be well over $50k.

I didn't know what I was doing and hired someone who was supposed to know. If it got past him, then it may have never been revealed because it was such a good fake. Needless to say, I'm happy I didn't go down that road.

The NCRS inspector told me he inspected and appraised two 67 435 cars for a woman who's husband had passed. He bought both at the height of the market and had $500k wrapped up in both cars that were both frauds made up by the same guy.

When it comes to rare midyears especially, it is definitely buyer beware. Roy Sinor told me it took him years to find his "real" 435 car. One comforting note concerning my 65 365 in the pictures above is that Roy knows the car very well and knows two of the previous owners personally.

That is the best documentation there is if that's important to you.

If that NCRS "inspector" got ripped for $500K on two cars, maybe you guys should revoke his license!

There is no such thing as a NCRS Inspector.

There are guys who are members of NCRS and might possibly be Bloomington Gold judges, who have appraisal/inspection businesses and offer appraisal/inspection services.

Neither organization has "certified" inspectors.

Those with appraisal credentials are usually licensed and bonded too, and I'm sure that there is some "disclaimer" in the wording of the document you get from them.

There are licensed antique auto appraisers that can look at any car, any make, any year for you.

What do you think of having a engine restamped just because you always have wanted to have the car "matching" just to please yourself.

If you sell the car off course you will tell the buyer that the engine is not original to the car and that you had the engine stamped to match the rest of the car.

What do you think of this?

I think you'd have created a fake that will roam the earth long after you've lost track of it.

Once you're done "pleasing yourself", why not just grind the numbers off?

There's a guy that lives close to me that prides himself on having "original" '67, 435 cars. He has/had 13 at last count. If he has 13 "real ones", the rest of you wanna' be's can quit looking 'cause he has all that's left.

ask the seller specific questions. there are alot of gestures and posturing other than the verbal shell game that red flags a fraud. and even then, the owner may not know. so its a crap shoot. I have been in the GTO game a long while and seen the bs and lies that accompany a car description.

anybody who knows and is sure of what they have will state it so in no uncertain terms. anybody else... knock 35% off the top and negotiate from there.

better yet, buy a roller and build what you want. just dont scam the next guy.

I been shopping for a 57 for about a year and came across a few. one guy showed me a nice car. I told him i was looking for a driver, non origional drivetrain preferred. he got all agressive with me and said his was worth a quarter million dollars. I asked why. he said "its cause any time I want I can put fuel on it and get that kind of money". waitin for this one to hit Barret Jackson.

Actually it was worth about 50g's maybe. funny thing ishe told another guy he bought it used in 72. He told me it belongs to his brother and told another guy his brother bought it new in 57.

cross referencing your sources is not al together reliable but it does add context.

still looking

Just to clarify he was not an NCRS inspector. He is a long time judge and specializes in 67BB cars. I contacted Roy Sinor and he suggested I get any car I am considering checked out by someone who knows their stuff. The gentleman's name he gave me said there is no one better in his opinion. So that is what I did. Yes I was disappointed that it slipped past him as a genuine car. In all fairness, he did recommend that I not buy the car if I was interested in getting it judged because there were many details not correct.

In regards to the other cars, he was inspecting them for a prospective buyer and not appraising them for the lady as I stated after I thought about it.

You must be just a tire kicker. You guys are a dime a dozen and can be a big PIA when it comes time to sell a car!
