'61 Cove Trim - Need some ideas
I've replaced all my dinged-up dull side cove trim over the last year or so and it all went on perfectly using the original attaching clips, etc. EXCEPT for one dang spot. The right hand side upper fender SS trim piece at the very rearward end near the door (see pic) keeps popping off the clip. I have tried:
1. Bending the trim upwards to relieve the stress on the clip to the point of nearly damaging the piece.
2. Compressing the trim at the clip spot with pliers in hopes it would have more pressure when I snap it on.
3. Used trim adhesive to "stick" the piece onto the clip which worked for about 8 months but now that has popped off.
I'm at the point of tearing something up cuz I'm PO'ed...any suggestions I haven't thought of are appreciated. I hate freakin' reproduction parts!

Frank,
It will hold if you compress it. You have to compress the piece from about 4 inches out (forward), so that it tapers. It won't work if you just try to bend it "at" the clip. Go easy until you get a good "snap" when you press it on. You can also fill the hole, or make another one a little higher, which will keep downward pressure on the clip. I've bent lots of them, and never found one that I couldn't get to hold.

If that didn't involve removing the trim (again) I'd consider it...however it seems to be holding for now after I screwed around with it for another hour or so...PITA...
