L88 Production
Hey everybody, I am trying to figure out just how rare the L88 really is/was, Does anyone know the production numbers? it was out of a 67' or 68' corvette, I really dont remember which, but pretty sure it was 68'
My dad had one that he took out of the vette and dropped it into a 69' Z28 Camaro. He ended up putting some really wide tires on it and obviously some other modifications, but he said it had so much power it would pull the front end off the ground 4 feet at the light.
Now this is the sad part, and not for the weak of heart, He ended up selling the car before he got drafted for the service for a meer 1500 bucks... Yeah.... and when he got back the guy he sold it to ended up totalling the car. So, Im just thinking of if that car were still with us today, what would it be worth and how many of those engines were there.
Thanks for reading everybody, Thanks for the help!

I believe the number factory installed in vehicles is well known at this point in time. The number sold over the counter, "crate engines or shortblocks" may never be known. I remember the magazine ads of L88's for sale at incredibly cheap prices. If we had only known back then.

If it was a 68 L88 he had, it was one of 80. If he had a 67 L88, it was one of 20.

You don't mention the years this occurred, but that is important.
If it was when the Corvette and Camaro were new, then we can assume the engine was original to the Corvette.
However, there were so many being sold over the counter and installed by backyard hot rodders, that if it was when the car was a couple of years old, there is nothing that says the engine was original and could have been an OTC engine instead.
Since you mention draft, and the last group to be drafted was 1972 IIRC, then we know it had to be between 1969 and 1972 which leaves us open to a few possibilities.
