Default 65 327/365 wont idle for more than a few minutes

I have just had the motor rebuilt, runs great, orig repop holley rebuilt, car starts great cold, warms up, and then cuts off and is hard to start. It spits gas out of the front vent tube before the stall.
Changed the needle and seats, put on an extra clear fuel filter to catch any debris. Still does it. When driving at speed car is fine--slowing down to stop--or idle it starts to stumble?????

Help---Fuel Pump??? Any Ideas?

What's the temperature of the engine? Fuel percolation (boiling of the gas in the carb) would do this.

Check your fuel pressure, Should be between 5-8psi if I remember correctly,

I have has past issues with today's fuel pumps having too much pressure. I went through 3 before I got one that wouldn't push the needle off the seat. One was pushing almost 15 psi.

The new material used for the diaphram is stiffer than the original and some springs have varying rates.

Shouldn't be any need to. Maybe you have another piece of debris under the needle?

I wouldn't think it would be fuel pressure as your back bowl isn't overflowing.

An engine operating in a perfectly normal temperature range can still percolate -- its the gasoline temp that's key not the water. However percolation doesn't seem to be the case here - Mike has it covered I think.

There isn't much else there to cause your problem other than a leaky needle/seat.

Ok--found out there was some small crap in the tank, replaced tank, sender and new rubber lines, new fuel pump. Dumped carb out, found tiny little metal particles in fuel. Blew out metal fuel line.
Hooked all back up---put about 4 gallons of new fuel in----NOW--no gas getting to carb---is there a special trick to draw the fuel all the way the first time??? Help!

Thanks

If you pull the rubber line off the intake side of the pump, you should have fuel running out as the tank is higher than the pump. If you have gas there, you have a bad pump or a restriction between the pump and the float bowl.

If you don't have gas at the pump, add more gasoline or jack the back of the car up. But you shouldn't have to do that as the pump should pull it on through.

Thanks--no fuel at the pump--no fuel coming out at sender rubber hose either---I was think to hook up some type of vacum to the rubber hose at the carb to get the fuel through the system

You have to start the siphon for fuel to go to the pump if you haven't cranked the engine yet. If you've cranked the engine over, the pump should have filled the line and it should gravity feed to at least the pump.

You can stuff a rag around the fuel filler and stick pressureized air into the filler neck, that should get the fuel going the way you want but like I said, the pump should do that on it's own.

Start and warm the engine. Remove both bowl sight plugs with engine running. Of course you will place rags under and around both open fuel bowl holes, and have a fire extinguisher handy (I have done this more times than I can remember, never had a fire extinguisher handy, and never needed it). If all is well, there should be a very slight dribble from both sight holes while the engine is running. Increase engine speed and dribbling should stop.

Even if you have this done properly there is a better than even chance that your 2818 will still flood when hot. It becomes most apparent after a highway run. The first time you come to a stop, the engine will cut out. Never was able to solve it completely with mine.

Gotta ask: how quick did you do that?
