Took my 66 out for a spin today. Couple of teenagers pulled up next to me at a stop light. One of them leaned out the door and said,"Hey man, very cool. What year Corvair is that?"

I could. My Dad was a car guy. He had the Motor manuals that had the pictures of the front ends of cars in them. I studied them all the time. Still have the damn books

This comes up a lot. It doesn't matter if they know what it is.
But that they are interested in knowing what it is.
I feel no shortage of admiration from the general public. Actually a bit too much.
One thing, when a younger individual takes interest. I will sometimes go out of my way to feed their interest.
There are more than a few under 30 owners here on the Forum. We even have an 18 yr old.
The interest in these cars is here to stay.
Just wait till a C2 shows up as a centerpiece in a hit movie or TV show.
It could turn into a 21st century "Route 66". A burst of pop culture and the interest in the C2 could sky rocket.
My daughters generation (25) loves everything early 60s. The clothes, styling, sophistication etc.. The C2 sure fills that bilL.
IMHO of course!

I pulled up to a gas pump the other day, out in the country. I was next to some woman who had two boys that were outside the car while she pumped gas.
The boys were arguing in hushed tones what kind of car I was driving. One was probably ten, the other about eight. The older one insisted I was driving a Corvette!
How did he recognize a '63 Corvette?

You sure they didn't say Coolcarman?? Sounds kinda the same. I think Corvettes, hotrods...etc are known by my peers and younger. However most don't have either the cash available or the mechanical ability to maintain an old car. This works both for and against me.
I love old cars and would like my hobby to become more than that over time. I would like that more younger guys would get involved because I'm usually the youngest guy at the cruise in at 35...

Yeah, they are definitely not the place to meet single young ladies. Single old widows perhaps.
Every time I go to a cruise in I feel like I'm out with my parent's peers.

I find that most kids know what they are, and the others want to ,when they see one, so frankly I wouldn't worry about the mystique. I rounded the corner the other day and a kid of about five or six just about had a fit trying to get moms attention pointing it out.

So the end of the story is that on my way home I passed a street person shuffling down the street, head down, looking downtrodden. As I passed, he looked up, got a big smile on his face and gave me the thumbs up. All is good!

I wouldn't worry. My mid year corvette is a one of a kind road machine that draws attention everywhere I go. I get the thumbs up from the early 30's to late 50 yo crowd all the time. I also get dirty looks from the ricer ******** who think they can drown out my side pipe roar with their lousy fart can mufflers Car envy at its best. It is nice to be hated and admired at the same time

I did a top down run past two neighborhood kids, one white and the other black, in the '61 a year or so ago...both kids looked to be 13-14 years old. I heard the black youth tell his buddy, "Hey man, that's a really old Corvette!" right off the bat...

("Street person"? Used to call them vagrants! That was the politically correct term, before that, they were known as "bums" But I guess I'm showing my age.)

3-4yrs ago, I pulled up to the bank drive through teller (in the 56). The young guy said "That's a nice Thunderbird". I said thanks.
