Default C2 Carpet Issue

I'm new to the forum. I have a 1964 coupe that I bought a carpet set for about 20 years ago. I'm just getting around to finishing the restore on the '64. The carpet came from Corvette America. Its foam backed and was stored in my garage attic all this time (20 years). The foam backing has turned gray, sticky and is falling off. The carpet itself still looks new. Obviously it saw too much heat in the attic all these years. I can scrape the foam off, but I'm still a little concerned about using the carpet. Still, I hate to throw out a new carpet set. I'm wondering if anybody has seen anything like this with foam used for auto carpet. Any advice?

I bought the 0.49c/ft foam carpet pad from Home Depot. Its the same stuff my upholstery shop uses. I like it, and it's cheap!

Default Carpet

I would pitch it and buy new for the time and effort of putting it in.

You're in for a real experience fitting all of those pieces together.
Sell what you have to someone who just wants to freshen up a driver and use what you get to offset the cost of new.
