Pretty much my outlook...and the last Mustang was the 1970 Boss 302.
The modern so-called 'muscle cars' are computers with wheels...

That's strange- cars with 'Stingray' badges didn't appear until 1969.

And there's the real reason- young, inexperienced kids with only 5K burning a hole in their pocket not realizing they'll need another 15k to end with something driveable that might be worth 10K.

I certainly made no silly mistakes like that when I was a kid.

What!!! You mean there are things I shouldn't use JB Weld for?

But 63-67's had "Sting Ray" emblems on the rear deck and the glove box door.

Oh man.

As a C3 owner I got to admit that most of what was stated here is correct. The part about not touching stuff on a Corvette and bringing it to a shop instead: That's me. How about failed restorations? Yeah, me too (granted, not on a Corvette but on a 69 Mustang).

But you know what I enjoy most? Driving up next to a C1 or C2 in my 69 at a car meeting here in Switzerland and watching the crowd. You C1/C2 freaks would be amazed how much attention "she" gets even in such aristrocratic environment. But then again, it could be my lady riding shotgun.

Still, I love the C1s and C2s, too.

Well before '68, Sting Ray owners were improving their cars with a lower stance, wider wheels and tires, flares and spoilers.

The factory started with the SAME chassis and engines and did the same thing, resulting in the C3. Prior to detuning ('71? '72?) they were basically the same car, with improved stock performance. Too bad fuel injection was not kept available and extended down to 300 hp and up to big blocks, the gas mileage was gratifying.

All that said, I do appreciate the greater interior room of my C2. They also look better, especially with tasteful flares and six tail lights.

IMHO an important factor for failed restorations is an excessive optimism regarding total costs of restoration combined with a financial basis which is not stable enough for unexpected costs.

C3 owners are younger than C1 and C2 owners on average with less life experience, may be that's an explanation.

Martin, attention you get is just arousing pity in neighborhood of C1s and C2s.

Eh, I think it's a bit myopic to form a judgment on a collection of car owners based on a small cross section of those who choose to participate in corvette forums.

One could draw all sorts of conclusions about C1/C2 owners based on the dialog found on this side of the forum - but those conclusions would be just as inaccurate.

Four speed C3s' up to (78?) all had a welded crossmember. Just the automatic cars had the removeable one.

The post directly above yours proves Jeff's point that I may be an idiot.

Well said Jeff, I have gotten the impression at times that some C2 (Not C1) cf members are full of themselves because they got a desirable car. I know they are all a bunch of good guys that share the same passion about the hobby.

Geez, elitist much?

I think some start without the slightest idea of what the end game really takes.
Well said and so true.

I am fully aware of that. I have owned a couple them.

I was pointing my bias toward the C2 as the only "REAL" Stingray. With a touch of sarcasm.

But what do I know, I have no interest in C3s, having only owned C1/C2s
