65 Fan Removal
Good morning from California. I am going to install the missing lower seal on my radiator shroud (327/365). I think I need to remove the fan to get in there properly. Stupid question: Do I need to drain the radiator to do that? Another stupid question: can I remove the fan with the fan clutch still attached to it, or do I need to remove them separately? Any important dos and don'ts on fan removal? Thanks.

No need to drain the radiator. You can remove the four bolts that hold the fan on and leave the fan clutch installed.
But I really don't think you need to remove anything to install the seal

Thanks for the response. I'm having a heck of a time getting the old staples out of the bottom of the metal shroud, and I don't knnow how I'll get the new ones (cutting wire to make those) in. Any tips on how to do it without fan removal. Thanks.

Can you get it from the under the car. If removing the fan will make it easier then by all means remove it. It's only four bolts.

Another stupid question: The four bolts on the fan or the four bolts where the shaft goes towards the engine (on the left of the picture)? Thanks.

LEFT Yes...
They should be Nuts/Lock washers...

Take the bolts out of the clutch, not the fan. The fan won't come over the clutch head, so remove them both together still bolted together. The belt will hold the pulley in place. Remove the ones closest to the engine, not the ones in the fan blade.

Fan Off
Thanks, guys. The fan is off
While taking it off, one of the bolts came off, too:
So later when I put it back on, I assume I just put the nut and lock washer back on and use the nut to tighten that bolt back in, correct? Really appreciate the help guys.

I would crack the nut off of that stud, get it threading smoothly off and on the stud, and reinstall the stud first using thread locker on it. But it's a small detail.

Thanks, Dan. If you could be a little bit more specific I'd appreciate it. You're saying the bolts are not correct? There are lock washers being used currently, as you can see in the photo. You think I need four new bolts, four new lock washers, and four new nuts? Thanks.
