T10 gear oil
Recommendations for gear oil top put into my 1960 T10?
The car has sat idle since 1985. I drained the old oil last weekend and inspected the gears. All looks real good gear wise, but the oil I drained did not smell like 90wt like I'm used to using in manuals. It was lighter in color and thinner in viscosity.
Thanks,
Tom

Is there a real issue with modern 80-90w gear lubes, and the soft metal components?
I hear that certain additives in the newer lubes are hard on the softer components, but not sure what is real and what is myth.

we did a poll of major lubricant suppliers back when we changed transmissions, and it is true, by their own admissions, that there is a problem with some formulations attacking brass synchro parts; unfortunately i don't remember the results of who is good or bad except that we ended up using valvoline.
subsequently i ended up changing to ATF for my MY6 because the thicker oil didn't shift as smoothly.

Thanks Bill, that's the brand I use anyway, so I'll just watch for damage when I pull the tranny out of the 62 later this year, but otherwise will assume my Valvoline did no harm.

CHEVRON DELO GEAR LUBRICANTS are my choice
Chevron Delo Gear Lubricants ESI (formerly Chevron Delo Gear Lubricants) are premium grade, multipurpose gear lubricants. Approvals include MIL-PRF-2105E, API Service Classifications GL-4, GL-5 and MT-1, Mack GO-G, GO-H and GO-J (80W-90). These lubricants are the only non-synthetic gear oils approved by Eaton and Meritor (formerly Rockwell) for 750,000-mile extended warranty service in axles. Delo Gear Lubricants ESI rival the performance levels of synthetic gear lubricants and are a cost-effective alternative to synthetic fluids.
