I am sending this to you here instead so people can see the type of person you are.
"Just received the patches in the mail from Charles along with a short letter explaining why HE is not taking any money for the patches.
I want to thank you for generosity in paying for them to be made.
It's people like you that makes people like me want to do things for others.
Once again, THANK YOU "

I received my patch's today, They are terrific and I will wear it with PRIDE. When I came home in the summer of 1970 there was a lot of anger towards the guys that served. Now 41 years later it's nice to know that there are folks like you two that appreciate what we did.
Thank You

It was a pleasure assisting Chuck Bernhardt in all of this and the real credit goes to him for initiating and coordinating this project. I did the easy part. Special kudos to him.
Special thanks to all our Vietnam Vets who served their country with distinction and honor during a very controversial period in American history. Thanks, too, for all the emails and PMs that I have received over the past few days. Many of them were very heartfelt and some of their stories I shared with my family. They brought back a lot of memories from that era. Some good; some not so good.
I never served in the military. I was in college during the height of the Vietnam war. I had a roommate who had spent time on a PBR in the Mekong Delta. Some of his stories were pretty harrowing, to say the least. I left for graduate school when I was 22 (1971) and many of my classmates were '68 graduates who had been drafted shortly after the Tet offensive. Chuck Ebert, who became a close friend in grad school, had actually been drafted by the Marines (every third person step forward). Fortunately, they made it back; many others did not.
Again, a special thanks to those who served and we will never be able to fully express our gratitude. Hopefully, the patches gets us a little closer. I think an all Veterans Corvette show would be a great idea. Since Chuck is such a whiz at organization, perhaps we can ask him to get the ball rolling.

Dan,
That was a really nice gesture for you to pick up the tab for all of these patches (which by the way are very nicely done!). Thanks for thinking of us and thank you Charles for putting this whole thing together! There are some nice things that came out of Nam! Thanks again to both of you.

Dan Hampton I thank you for you kindness and thought fullness for all of us who spent time in Vietnam. Your generous gift to us is very much appreciated as you know. The nation was torn in two by those of us who served and for the most part believed that what we were doing, was right. There were those who apposed the war, and believed they were right. Most of us did not want to be there but it was our destiny.
Thank god now, even if you oppose what we're involved in, we respect our men and women in uniform. That means a lot to this generation of young people serving. This is an all volunteer military, serving because they want to.
I read the following along time ago and felt it explained our service.
Quote from Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
As life is action and passion, it is required of a man that he should share the passion and action of his time, at the peril of being not to have lived.
Thank you again, and Charles, were indebted to you. for your efforts on our behalf.
