Default Thinking of adding power steering

If i add power steering to my C2 should i go for the hypo or no hypo kit?

What is the benefits using a hypo? If there is any that is

What is the difference of a hypo and non hypo?

I have no idea. Where did you hear those terms?

are you talking 'rack & pinion', power and non-power, or a hydraulic gear box such as the Jeep box?

Here is one kit from VanSteel with hypo or non hypo
http://www.vansteel.com/index.cfm?fu...&SubGroup=1869

I am talking about a regular PS convertion kit and not rack and pinion.

They list them here with hypo and without hypo, so I'm guessing they are referring to hi-performance optioned engines.

definitely a personal opinion on my part; but there is no way on God's green earth that if i was going to convert a C2 to PS that i would use a GM ram type. i would at least use the jeep power box.

Check with Chuck, forum name "turbocat". He has the Borgeson (spelling?) power steering utilizing the jeep box and a adjustable control valve. He has had several types on his 66 and feels the Borgeson (spelling?) is the best by far!

There are different pulleys for power steering for the over 300 horsepower 63's and probably other engines. Hypo means a more highperformance block.

Those noted look very nice. For a few more dollars you can get power rack and pinion which people love.
'
I am in the process of putting stock power assist steering in my63. I have purchased used parts, I rebuilt my power assist valve and I am buying a rebuilt pump. I will have about $450 in it.

Make sure you get the correct pump reservoir (or complete pump) for your car.

As I am saying, I am in the process and if you have any questions, pm me.

pulley configuration will be different! You'll need a 3 groove crank pulley on an air car. Not sure what else.

go Borgeson, i have done both original ram type and Borgeson, I prefer the Borgeson. You will need to cut your steering shaft 2-1/2" as the Borg steering box is longer....also shop prices as there is a difference between vendors .... pm me for the 1 that I found to be the cheapest.

Default Borgenson

We had the Borgenson unit just installed. Absolutely fantastic! No better mod to a '66 SBC as has ever been found. Get it and you will thank the day you did. Summit Racing has the best price I could find.

Default Borgenson- Reply to the Saint

You will have a much better feel for the road but no harshness. As to the turn radius; if you want to have a fast steering setup, move the tie rod ends to the inner holes and have front end realigned. We stayed with the original setup and the stering is great. Personal preference as to hyow tight a turn radius you desire. Good Luck..

I can move the tie rod ends to the inner holes on the disc brakes(complete rebuilt spindles from a never car) i am putting on my car and still have that i think.

But i do some work on my car in stages so if i buy a power steering kit(for a high perfomance car with ac)now i suppose i can use that on a Borgeson rack and pinion if i go for
Borgeson next summer?

The Borgeson utilizes a power steering box in place of the stock box. It's not a rack and pinion system. (unless they have developed another system).
