Default 1961 door handle dis-assembly

Feeling a little dumb now - here are my old and new door handles for the driver's side. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the 'push plate' assembly out of the old one and installed in the new one.

What am I missing ?!??!

Push in on outside ends of inner plate, then turn outer small plate 90 degrees

That's right. Take a pair of pliers, and push on the lower(the big one), while you grip the smaller plate. Rotate the smaller plate (sometimes it works better in one direction than the other), and the whole thing will come apart.

Yup! Can't believe I didn't photograph that when I had mine apart.

Thanks folks.

And Mike I sent you a private email with a question about another trim issue I'm fighting right now. Thought I'd go that route rather than post two dumb questions on the forum in the same day.

Frank

Some info about adjusting the button/latch in case you don't have this one. You sure get the most out of this "hobby"!

As usual great article Dave. In any event my eBay purchased repro door handle is a big POS. If you fully tighten the screw that came with it a very noticeable 'bump' shows up in the chrome on top of the end opposite the button...e.g. the d@mn screws are too long. Guess I'm off to Eckler's tomorrow to get another handle... Grrr.....
