Default Splined hub removal

What are the correct size bolts that screw into the steering wheel hub enabling you to remove it off the splined steering shaft with a wheel puller.I have several bolts that came with my wheel puller but none fit.I hope the threads are not ruined.Thanks.

I have always used a 5/16-18 bolt. I have not run across a steering hub from GM (in the early cars) that was different...but I could be incorrect...but I SWEAR it is a 5/16-18 bolt.

....of course you can always try the smash and pull technique. Get a thick 7/16 SAE (fine thread) nut, thicker than the part of the steering column that protrudes through the steering wheel hub. Pull the steering wheel toward you and pop the nut a couple of times with a 3# hammer. Worked for me every time.
