clutch linkage C1 corvette
I have the original z bar with the bracket which is suppose to connect to the bellhousing (I think). The bellhousing I am using does not have any holes on the side where the cross clutch shaft bracket is suppose to connect. I am not sure where I can mount the cross clutch shaft bracket to the bell housing. So it looks like I need to replace the bellhousing.
I am using a later housing since I was not sure if the 62 housing would work with a M21 transmission.
Do I need to replace the transmission housing with a 62 version? If so will it fit onto M21?

You can modify a stock bracket to bolt to the block pivot ball stud mount.
I did this years ago when i had some 1960's Chevelle aluminum bell in my car.
It isn't hard.

Do I understand that you are not sure if a Muncie will bolt up to a 1962 Corvette bell housing?
If so, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 55-later Chevy manual trannys (early 3sp, late 3sp, T10, Muncie, etc) will bolt up to ANY 55-later Chevy bell housing and everything fits perfect.
The ONLY 2 issues are the unique, one year only, small front bearing retainer on the trannys and the smaller hole in the bell housing for 1963. And the other issue is that not all bell housings have the boss/threaded holes for the Z-bar bracket.
By the way, M20, M21, M22 has zero relationship to mating with any bell housing. They are ALL Muncies and ALL Muncie cases and bolt patterns are identical (again, with the exception of the unique 63 case/bell housing).
Open this link and go to pgs 4-5 for pictures.

this is the cast iron version of the 'stock' type open bottom bellhousing version. the bracket simply bolts to the belldousing
John (plasticman) made z-bar bracket adapters for me for the various iterations of bellhousings i've used.
this is the Z-bar bracket for the aluminum 'full' bellhousing truck version with the large bearing retainer hole. the bracket is made to mount using the bellhousing bolts.
this is the open bottom truck cast iron bellhousing i'm using now because it has the large bearing retainer hole. the Z-bar bracket in now mounted to the side of the new ZZ4 block instead of the bellhousing. i don't have a pic of this bracket, but we can probably come up with something if needed.

Another idea was to weld up the holes and use a 403 number housing which has one hole then use a spacer to the engine block thread hole right near the oil line hole.
I will take the photographs with me and use it as a reference. So one bolt to the bell housing and one bolt to the engine block and change the locations of the holes to different locations.

James,
Below is the drawing for wmf62's Z bar bracket that I made. I took his existing Z bar bracket and cut it off pretty short, and rotated it 90 degrees. Then welded it to the flat spanner bar as shown. If any questions, just ask.

The second picture was what we thought we could make.
