Default Insurance Question for '63 coupe

I am looking to switch insurance this spring (with state farm, need to get collector car coverage). My problem is odometer does not work. I do not drive more than 1000 miles a year. I am in PA and I do not take it out from November until April. I only drive it for pleasure. Will I be able to get collector car insurance without a working odometer?
thanks,
lynn

I have never heard of an agent or ins company ever checking your odometer. I wouldnt worry about it, but why not just fix it?

I had Hagerty for my 64 for several years and was happy till I bought a 99FRC last March. Hagerty would not insure the 99 because my 2 DDs were older than 6 years. I checked with the National Corvette Museum and Adam Boca for insurance. Adam is a great person to work with, you'll like dealing with him.

Hagerty is good, that is who I had previously, but they wanted 2X what Grundy wanted for coverage on my '37 Ford.

The rest of my cars were within dollars for the same coverage. They were worried that if anything ever happened to it, they would be in for total repaint....where Grundy didnt seem to be as worried. So I ended up switching. I have no issues with Grundy nor Hagerty.

My vintage rolling stock is insured through State Farm. Every couple of years they send me survey forms regarding the cars and on these forms are places to enter the current odo readings. So it does happen.

Well i had a claim with hagerty, they did not ask the mileage. They did do a wonderful job even paying to repair some rust on the windshield frame. They are top notch, i represent 12 auto insurance carriers along with most of the collector car companies. It was worth the extra premium to have such great service.

Thats funny because I use State Farm also and have never gotten one of those forms. Guess its probably the luck of the draw, like whether you get audited by the IRS ( I have twice!)

Collector car policies from regular companies such as State Farm are different from those from the specialty insurers such as Hagerty, Grundy, American Collector, etc. It's not just a simple matter of looking at their prices. With a company such as Hagerty there is a zero deductible for collision or a claim, there is only one charge for the liability portion no matter whether you have one car or a thousand, and you will have less of a hassle in getting it repaired at a specialty shop.

There must be a thousand threads on the two corvette sites about insurance. It all comes down to which company and whether you are comfortable with "agreed value" or "stated value". Call your local agent and see what they have, and how comfortable you are with them. Year of car, deductibles, limits, use, estimated miles driven annually, Prior claim history, tickets, etc. come into play. Everyones situation and state laws/policies are different.

Default insurance ??????

Hagerty just sent me my new renewal along with a price increase. I called and told them that they gave me an increase last year. Their answer was that is the price of doing business. I then started to shop around and Heacock beat their price by one hundred dollars. Hope that was some help. Tom

I was with State Farm. I wanted to up the coverage because I've been putting more money into it fixing things. They wanted an appraisal. I looked around and landed at NCM insurance. They beat the State Farm policy at the lower coverage.

I'm with American Collector's. I had a hit in the windshield. I got one quote $670 and they sent me a check for the full estimate. I pay 380 for 50k.
I would get your odometer fixed. In today's market and every insurance co buying from others. One glitch and you might not get your car fixed if you have a accident.
