1966 tank insulator pads replace ??
i'm putting in a new tank & such on my 66 coupe but can't get a hold of the anti- squeak insulator pads for a while. will the old ones be of any use (after 45 years) or will i have to play the waiting game to change out the tank. signed - "my wife's ready to light a match in the a-joining garage"

My wife had been waiting in the car while I stopped into the local Corvette shop to pick up some parts that I had ordered.
I was proudly showing her the parts and telling her what I had bought.
When I got to the anti-squeak thingies, she said, "I can't believe you actually bought these!"
They were nothing more than strips of tar paper.
I had enough tar paper in my shed to make hundreds of them.

Two strips of 30# 2"'s wide roofing felt is all you need.

It's not exotic materials or rocket science. It's just tar paper. (roofing felt)

I used 3M Black Weatherstrip Adhesive to glue my strips down to the frame before installing the tank. Keeps them in place. But don't overdue the adhesive.....a small amount is sufficient.
