C1/C2 body shim question
Folks,
May seem like an odd question, but was wondering if C1/C2 frame shims installed at the factory were to fix irregularities with the frames or with the bodies.
The Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide (Tripoli) says that "...the shims were installed as the chassis went down the assembly line". To me this implies that there was some sort of measuring device that told them how many shims to place on the frame before the body was ever introduced. Originally I thought it may be that the shims were to help mate the body to the frame, and this is why I am asking the question.
To get to the specific question, I have a 65 frame that I may rebody, and I am not sure if you would keep the same # of shims as were on the frame with the original body or if the # of shims might change depending on the body that is going on it.
As always, thanks in advance!!
