What's wrong with this picture?
I'm trying to buy a hardtop for the '62, and I am presented with this thing:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I know very little about hardtops, but this just does look right. And the other side doesn't even have the pin.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Can somebody tell me if I am right or wrong?
He's asking 3K for the thing. Is that too high? Here are some other pics..

That top looks like it needs a lot of work and is missing some pieces as well. I would pass on it for $3000. There are a lot of nicer tops available for that kind of money IMO. Post something in the WTB section of the forum. Too bad you don't have a 59-60, there is a really nice looking one for sale by one of our forum members for $3500 asking. Pilot Dan

Difficult to tell the condition of the weather stripping and the side and rear glasses, but replacement of the side glass and rear weatherstripping is a major pain. New glass and complete weatherstripping will probably be close to $800 just for parts.

I thought it seemed a little high.
But, does it look like the right top for a '62? Do those pins that latch to the windshield look right? I thought they looked a little funny, but maybe it's because of the weatherstripping.

I'll agree that the price is a tad high...the missing pin is incorrect....you need and want that. I picked up my VERY nice hardtop last April 14th for $2,200 and it was even local so no shipping charges. It has great paint, clear plexiglass windows, nice stainless, headliner and all correct parts. Even has correctly date coded side windows for my car! I did have to replace the header weatherstrip though ($18) and repair a tear in the headliner ($45)...
Professional rear glass/weatherstrip replacement is more like $1,000; I know as I called the GlassWorks folks about it. This task requires major disassembly.

Both latches appear to be broken. It's easy to do if you exert too much pressure on them. You can get those easy enough. It is missing one pin which is part of the top that feeds into the windshield molding. It appears to be in very rough condition and in need of restoration. Way overpriced IMO. Keep looking. They can be bought for less in better shape.

Using the wrong latches will almost guarantee that they break sooner or later...hard to tell from the photos if these are correct or not but here is the word from the experts:

Hey, good post!
I have to admit, neither of the latches in the video look like the ones on the top. I may still have to get the top and just replace the latches. I don't know of too many others for sale, and I hate to pass up a so-so deal for one that may take months to happen instead.

I don't think this rises to the level of a so so deal. Make him a reasonable offer and run away if he doesn't take it. 1,750. - 2,000 max. Sometimes you have to know when to fold.

Not sure the color you need but here is a beautiful Roman Red one for sale as a reference. This one is listed for $3900 but looks like it needs nothing.

It is officially a 61 hardtop with the white headliner. All 61's had a white headliner not matter what other color interior or exterior. 62's had interior color headliners. It will work for your 62 just change the headliner to your interior color. I agree with other opinions it is way overpriced. I am not as generous as the others I say $1,500.00 or pass. Hardtops come along all of the time. They are beautiful on the cars but most people do not want to bother to take them on and off and storage is always a hassle. Good Luck with whatever decesion you make.

Don't buy it! It looks like it might be worth half of asking price. Try to contact arw57. He had one for sale a while back and it was very nice. I would have bought it myself but I found a nice one locally and saved the shipping costs.

That hard top is missing one locating pin in the header, one and possible both side brackets that go just under the quarter windows and hold the top to the car at the top of the door jamb.
The windows will have a month-year date code in that that should tell you the applicability.
In either case, run away, there will be far better tops available over time.
I've never heard that about 62s. The original hardtop for my 62 had a white headliner and against a car with a red interior.

I would like to hear other opinions about headliner color on 62's. I will stand by my original comment on all 61's. I may stand corrected on my 62 comment if more 62 owners chime in and agree that white was also used in 62 for all interior colors. I will stay tuned and learn more one way or another.
