Default Installing engine

For those of you that have pulled your engine and tranny -
When you replaced them, did you replace them as a unit or separately?
I have all the radiator components out, and I haven't put the steering linkage in yet. I'll pull the dizzy and other pokey bits off the engine so I'll have more room to play with. (the shroud is in this photo, but only held in by two bolts)Name: DSCN3323.jpg

Anything I need to look out for?

I would put them in together. You have everything out of the way so together is the way to go.

I have found it is easier to install the engine/tranny as a unit, then installing them separately and have to deal putting the trans in later.
Also, if your trans has fluid in it, you will lose most of it on the floor when tilting the engine to install it. Insert a plug or a spare driveshaft yoke into it if you have one.

Default Transmission

I have installed both ways and it is easier to install as a unit. I would also remove the fan shroud. You won't have such a steep angle to overcome with the shroud out of the way. Jerry

Default Thanks!

I figured it would be easier as a unit too.
Thanks again!

Unless you're masochistic, be sure to install the accelerator lever before you drop in the motor.

Having a floor jack with wheels supporting the tranny helps big time when putting the combo in as a unit.

I always put trans and engine in as one monolithic lump. Takes about 15 minutes from engine lifted to chains off.

Yes, the only time I wouldn't R&R both is when your engine is fine and you just need to replace the clutch. So you should get used to it, because it can save you many hours, even with a 95 lb tranny.

Lot easlier as one unit, then laying under car wrestling with the trans.

Yes if you need to replace the engine, I'd agree.
