Default 1966 Decklid template for hardtop

Gentlemen:

I am trying to place a hardtop on my 1966 Convertible. I need a template or something similar for the decklid to ensure that I drill the holes in the right place. Any suggestions?

When you open the lid, Is there a marking on the bottom side like the preformed part for the soft top?

Put your hardtop on it, wiggle it a bit and mark off where it needs to have holes. That's what I'd do.

I recall the assembly manual also states to place and fit the hardtop on then determine where the holes are to be located.

I'm sure they are all very close but due to variations this recommended method would give the best fit.

Try this. Take some modeling clay, any color. Make two strips, each 4x2. Coat the hardtop frame area where the bolts catch into the slots with some oil. This will keep the clay from sticking to it. Next, clean the deck lid area real well, make sure no wax or anything is left on the surface. This area/point is approximately 12 1/4 from the side of the lid, and 9 1/4 from the back of the lic. Place the clay on the deck lid at that center point, then with a friend lower your top down carefully. The weight of the top will emboss the clay and give you a very good indication of the point you want to drill a VERY small starter hole. When you lift the top off, watch the clay and make sure it doesn't catch and lift with the top. Might be a good idea to have a third friend help at this point too watch the clay. Hope this helps. Dennis

Gentelmen:

Thanks for the advice. I will look into those options. I will also see if there are any indentions on the bottom of the decklid that tell me where to drill the hole. I was hoping that someone knew of a template or similar. A friend of mine indicated that "Ranger Corvette" may have a product. I can not find them on the internet. Thanks again for your guidance.
