Why don't people answer the question?
I've noticed a phenomenon on several forums I visit where people do everything but answer the question asked by the originator of the thread. Here's a manufactured example:
Q: I narrowed my choices down to yellow or blue. Which do you like better?
A: I like red.
A: Why do you feel you need to change the color from stock?
A: Mine is painted green and I like it a lot.
A: If you painted the surrounding part black, you could paint it any color.
A: Why not combine yellow and blue and make it green?
Etc.
Why do people who don't want to answer the actual question feel compelled to reply? I just don't get it.
BTW, I fully expect some people to deliberately not answer this question in an entirely predictable attempt to demonstrate irony. How very clever.

To address the point why most don't answer the OP question could be many reasons. Again most might think its silly for the same reasons stated above being "opinion based". The other is its a FORUM so you might get a answer to something you never thought of. Given the example you stated about color, some might think well if the OP has to seek opinions from others on something they don't own maybe they never thought of X. So they put in their 2 cents. Thats the whole idea behind these forums. Many think they know it all and sometimes they get an answer they never thought of?

And I would ask, 'why do so many people ignore the answers?'.
What I'm trying to say is that everybody's talking and very few are listening. That's why people don't answer the question.

Yes, I know this will be just the answer you are looking for. Can you wait just a little longer?
You know what? What I felt like was coming to me was not an acceptable answer for you. All I was really feeling was a need to go to the bathroom. But, in just a few minutes I know I can come up just the answer you want. Gosh, I wish I didn't have to make you wait like this.
Oh crap, you know what, I don't have even one thing you can use. Sorry I wasted your time.

1. We are all unknowingly attempting to initiate a debate that will ultimately lead the questioner to a moment of epiphany.
2. It's the symptom of a lousy question.

Here's a question,
I'm a senior member.
But not a paid one.
Can someone tell me how I can get paid to be a senior member?
thank you

I'm wondering why the OP goes to so many forums that provide only silly answers. Maybe he actually enjoys it and this is a cry for help? Is he threatening to quit and wants us to beg him to stay?
