This is from a 1976 Mag i have called Chevy Power.
Bruno's of So. Cal did the work.

I look at all the 90's running around with Ferrari kits, and ground effects body work, and I think in 20 years it will be like us looking at that picture, it's all relative, time goes on.

Beleive it or not King Rat is still around. It will soon go through a full restoration just as it was in its show glory. Its not in bad shape either. I remember seeing it as a kid at the car shows in So Cal and it knocked my socks off. I saw it a few years back and was amazed that its still the same. A buddy of mine owns it and it will get restored.

Bruno (real name Roger Brunelle) did repair and custom work on a couple of my Corvettes before he leveled his shop that had been on Ventura Blvd. almost 30 years, built a nice shopping center on the site, and retired.
He built a rather nice mid-engined Corvette around 1980. It was always parked by the fence in front, sometimes covered, sometimes not, and NOT FOR SALE. Wonder what happened to it?

I remember seeing a similar C2 that had aircraft headlights (big watts) twin gearboxes coupled so that the second box was all overdrive (I think - I do remember it had 2 boxes) the rear window had been grafter from a Jensen Inteceptor (or something similar), it was a big block made even bigger and had either turbo or supercharger aspiration and may have drunk avgas or ethanol with a great thirst - 1000+ hp at the rear wheels. All this plus an astounding top speed and bright yellow paint - thought it was fantastic when I was 14-16 years old - some 30 years ago. ALL good memories and considerabley tastefully done I thought back then. Funny went home to my Mum's 4 months ago and I looked for that very magazine - no luck though.

Ok, you set me off hunting. I found these pics in one of my old books. Seems like Kieth first customized it when it was a roadster and it was called "Love American Style" He then wrecked it and resurrected it as a coupe. The rear window was indeed from a DeTomaso Vallelunga. Reportedly the motor was good for over 700 hp. I like it except for the **** interior.

Thanks! Looks like the top was nicely chopped. The doors have been shortened enough on the bottom to suggest gullwings, but the panels above the windows appear to be stock width, so probably not.
I think some of the modern 200 mph cars could use those fender-top vents. 'Course it might make a mess driving through a muddy puddle!

I was looking up the King Rat to see if I could find it. My grandfather was actually the one who modified it. He recently passed away and I know he put so much work and effort into that car. I was wondering if you could put me in contact with the owner to see if he is willing to sell it. It would mean a lot to me and my mom to have something he put his blood, sweat, and tears into.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Thomas

2023 C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Hello,
I was looking up the King Rat to see if I could find it. My grandfather was actually the one who modified it. He recently passed away and I know he put so much work and effort into that car. I was wondering if you could put me in contact with the owner to see if he is willing to sell it. It would mean a lot to me and my mom to have something he put his blood, sweat, and tears into.

I also know who owns the car now. He spent years trying to buy it before he finally succeeded. I doubt if it will ever be for sale again. He also owns a custom 63' SWC that was also a magazine cover car back in the day. Both will be restored to there former glory. Are you related to Keith Ball? The old owner and builder as I remember. That's who my friend purchased the car from. He Found it up in Norhtern Ca. Or Oregon as I remember. I know he found the 63' in Hawaii and brought it back to the mainland.
